The S-Classes That I Raised - Chapter 872
The water rippled beneath his feet. It gathered, then dispersed, then gathered and flowed again. Seong Hyeon-jae looked down at the waves that swayed without any rules. The moist air soaked the collar of his clothes. The surroundings were saturated with moisture.
“The postcard will get soggy.”
Han Yu-jin had returned to his own world. The distance had become too great even when he came to the third Origin. So, for a while, he wouldn’t be able to send postcards. The two people he cherished in the world without him would live on.
A bittersweet emotion soaked Seong Hyeon-jae’s heart. Seong Hyeon-jae observed and enjoyed that emotion as well. It was regretful and regrettable. It was also lonely. However, it was also enjoyable to feel such emotions. For a while, he would have to endure, savoring this bitterness. As each day passed, he might become impatient. He might try to turn around, abandoning everything. Such recklessness would also be fun.
“But this is. Too obvious and trivial.”
Gulp- Something stirred beneath the water. As soon as the young chaos left its place for a moment, all sorts of things crept in, not missing the gap. It wasn’t just transcendents aiming for similar origins. Nameless monsters that gave off a tantalizing scent while being weak compared to their strength, preying on them. Wicked things that had been driven out of their own world and were wandering in the cracks.
Black shadows skimmed the water’s surface, circling like a school of sharks drunk on blood. Splash, water splashed from a distance. Cold drops of water left dark stains on his coat. Golden eyes looked down indifferently at the waves that broke into circles.
Hoo-ooh- The beast’s breath grew louder. It growled and bared its teeth, claws, and tail. The postcard held in his gloved fingertips was put into his pocket. The empty fingers pressed down on the air like piano keys, and instead of smooth notes, light sprang from the tips.
Quietly, twinkle, twinkle. And.
Kwa-rung-!
The sparkling light became a flare, and the beasts soared. Kwa-ah, the water drew a line dozens of meters long and poured down like rain. Amidst the fierce growls, Seong Hyeon-jae moved his hand once more. The golden chain that suddenly appeared plunged toward the water, and light flowed along its path.
Immediately after.
Kwa-aang!
All the water burst out at once. It was a lake filled with mana. The water was dug into and divided by the electric current, then mixed again and collided. The black masses melted away, engulfed in the monstrous explosion. The water that evaporated in an instant was barely enough to soak the soles of his shoes.
However, not all the monsters had disappeared.
– Growl.
The beast revealed its fangs as it instantly recovered the part of its body that had been torn off. Sunghyunjae wrapped chains around his right arm. At the same time, the beast slid across the shallow water. It silently appeared right before him in an instant and opened its mouth wide. Instead of dodging, Sunghyunjae thrust his arm into its dark gullet.
Chomp!
Its teeth tore through his flesh and dug into his skin. Right before the fangs that reached his shoulder could crush his bones, the end of the chains wrapped around his bitten arm dug deeper into the beast’s throat. At the same time,
BAM!
The beast’s thick neck exploded as it couldn’t withstand the explosion from within. The severed torso fell into the puddle with a thud, and Sunghyunjae nonchalantly moved his arm to tear off the dead skull that was still persistently biting and hanging on. His recovery skill quickly healed his wounds. However, before he could fully recover,
THUD.
Sunghyunjae, who had been standing still like a statue, suddenly kicked off the water. With a loud splash, a giant tail fell onto the shaking water. The remaining water splashed everywhere, and a gust of wind blew. Sunghyunjae glided a long distance as if riding the wind. The chains wrapped around his upper body rattled.
“This…”
His golden eyes narrowed slightly. Among the floating creatures, there were some that were close to transcendents. Or perhaps they were transcendents who had lost their sense of self after being worn down over a long period of time. They were still beasts that were annoying to deal with. And they were bothersome.
Screech—The beast’s tail swept across everything. It was slow, but it carried a thick mana that one couldn’t escape once caught. Sunghyunjae spread his wings and tried to retreat, but he stopped.
There was no need to avoid it. He looked up at the distant beast’s head.
Creak.
It was cut off with a soft sound. Neither the thick leather nor the layers of magic wrapped around it were of any use. The giant body collapsed and melted. The young Chaos descended gracefully onto the newly rising water. Its red eyes glared at him.
“There’s not a moment of peace.”
“I was just quietly writing a letter filled with longing.”
“I told you to hide.”
“I couldn’t help but be drawn to the familiar shadow that appeared in the swaying waves.”
“All you do is stick your nose where it doesn’t belong.”
Chaos clicked its tongue at Sunghyunjae, who sighed as if he had been cursed. He had no choice but to bring it along, but it was a pain in the neck in many ways.
“Let’s go to the second Origin.”
“Are we moving already?”
“It’s true that the Spring is showing different movements, but there’s no way to figure out the will of the water. I wonder if things would be different if the mermaid queen was awake. She’s the strongest among the water attribute transcendents.”
“Sam’s movements are indeed different, but there is no way to know the will of the water. If only the mermaid queen were awake. She is the strongest among the water attribute transcendents.”
“Yes?”
Or perhaps the King of the Sea might know something. However, the mermaid queen was asleep, and the King of the Sea was dead, leaving only his traces behind. It just so happened that the two transcendents closest to water were absent. Sunghyunjae tilted his head slightly at the young Chaos’s words.
“The little lady comes to mind. I heard that Park Yerim’s spirit has inherited the title of successor to the mermaid queen.”
“The third one will take about a hundred years. It will take at least 10 years, even at the fastest, for her to set foot outside the world. Anyway, there’s nothing we can do right now.”
If someone appeared who could communicate with the deepest Sam, then we could try something. But right now, there was no such being.
“Another miss.”
Connecting to the system instead of the young Chaos, Sunghyunjae said,
“I don’t feel like giving Han Yujin four more children.”
“They’re not ordinary children, but will the eldest be able to handle it? Even I think one is more than enough. We need to find another way for the rest. Still, there was a change in Sam, so it’s just a matter of time.”
[Hello, Grandpa! Chain!]
A system message popped up.
“You’re not the strict administrator today.”
When Yoo Myungwoo was in charge, it was difficult to receive messages outside of business. Sometimes, I wondered if he had turned on an AI that he had prepared in advance.
[Daddy said he was going out for a while to pick this flower.]
“That’s an interesting story. Can you tell me more about it?”
[No. Daddy told me not to talk to Chain for too long. Tell me what you need!]
Sunghyunjae replied that he was sorry, but he was going to the second origin. Yoo Haneul opened the portal for world-to-world travel through the system connection.
“The endlessly flowing wings are literally a flow.”
The young Chaos said as he entered the portal.
“It is presumed to have the power to flow anywhere. It is said that it can go against and even surpass not only space but also time. That’s why it’s an origin that’s even harder to approach than all the colored jewels.”
“Is that because we can get caught up in it?”
“Yes. If you get swept away by the wind that swirls around the wings, time and space will become entangled. So put on a leash so that you don’t get thrown out on your own.”
Sunghyunjae wrapped the chain around his wrist and held out the end. Chaos grabbed the end of the chain, and soon the end of the portal appeared. The power of the system that had enveloped the two disappeared, and a darkness filled with twinkling stars spread out.
The young Chaos followed his senses and headed straight for the second origin. As it was the origin with the strongest presence in this world, it wasn’t difficult to find the place even without much effort. And after a while.
“That’s the second origin.”
Pure white, huge wings and a silver wind swirling between the feathers. The endlessly flowing wings were clearly visible, but the young Chaos tilted his head.
“Why is it… folded?”
“Why is it… folded?”
A small hand grabbed the tip of the wing. The wings spread out from the child’s back and wrapped around it.
“Yes?”
“Originally, it was spread out as if it would fly away at any moment.”
But the white wings were folded in a circle as if they were wrapping something. The silver wind was also weak. Could it be that it had become seriously weakened after a long starvation?
“I don’t intend to hurt you. I’m trying to help.”
Even if it didn’t understand, the young Chaos spoke as he dragged Seong Hyeon-je and entered the folded wing to avoid the wind.
“…This is.”
“It’s a forest.”
There was a small forest in the wing. In the middle of it was a playground full of flowers. Slide, swing, seesaw, etc. Colorful picnic mats, lunch baskets, tents for young children, and toy cars. A young child was sitting on a large, round sofa.
“That child…”
Chaos frowned slightly. Seong Hyeon-je also shut his mouth with a subtle expression. The two were about to approach the child who was dozing off in the warm sunlight coming from somewhere.
Crash-!
With a loud gust of wind, the huge wings shrank in an instant and flew towards the child. It spread out enough to comfortably wrap around the child’s small body and guarded against the two.
“…Huh? What is it?”
The child rubbed his sleepy eyes and raised his head. He was startled when he saw the two people beyond the wings. He seemed a little scared.
“They look alike.”
“You mean the first child? The atmosphere is similar. What’s going on here?”
Young Chaos let out a short sigh. Then his body shrank. The child’s eyes widened as Chaos transformed into a boy.
“What a strange older brother!”
He clapped his hands as if he were watching a magic show. Chaos told Seong Hyeon-je not to come near and carefully approached the child. The wings flinched, but did not stop him.
“Child, what is your name?”
“Hmm. It’s Eugene.”
“…How old are you?”
Little Han Yu-jin spread out four fingers, then spread out all five, tilted his head, and folded one. Four or five years old.
“It was before the second child was born.”
In other words. Young Chaos glanced at Seong Hyeon-je. Han Yu-jin, who had not yet been held in anyone’s arms. A caregiver who Seong Hyeon-je had tried to accept as a new one before the regression. Seong Hyeon-je approached quietly and asked Chaos in a small voice.
“Do you really think he’s Han Yu-jin?”
“I don’t know. As I said before, the wings can escape time. It’s possible that they went back to the past and brought back the young first child. Or maybe they found a piece or trace of the first child’s childhood. But what are we going to do with a child like this?”
Chaos looked at the wings with dissatisfaction and asked the child.
“How did you get here? Where are your parents?”
“…I don’t think I have any. I was alone, and you called me to come with you.”
A small hand grabbed the tip of the wing. The wing spread and enveloped the child’s back like a cloak.
“This child is alone too. Hmm, they said it would be good if Yujin came.”
The child crossed their arms, not understanding. Little Chaos spoke quietly to Seong Hyeon-je.
“It doesn’t seem like they kidnapped a child from the past. But it must be related to the first one. Otherwise, the second origin, who shouldn’t have been born yet, wouldn’t have such an ego and be able to move so actively.”
He couldn’t know the details. Chaos guessed that the wind from the wings, which could flow everywhere, was influenced by the birth of the snowy tree and was instinctively trying to find a caregiver.
“We can’t call him Han Yujin, but we can see him as part of Han Yujin. Is he in a similar state to me and Haneul?”
“Maybe he got mixed up with the second origin. The wings seem to have an ego, but they can’t use their powers properly or communicate. They’re just focused on protecting the child.”
“So, this child itself could be the second origin, and the wings could be a manifestation of the power protecting the origin.”
“Anyway, we can’t leave it here. It’s too dangerous.”
No Transcendent had approached it because the danger of the second origin was well known, so it had been safe so far. But if its current state were to be discovered, it would surely be targeted. Little Chaos transformed back into his adult form. The child, who had grown accustomed to him, wasn’t surprised but rather seemed amused. When Chaos tried to pick up the child, the wings fluttered. But they didn’t stop him. Instead, they shrank even smaller and landed on the child’s black hair like a wing-shaped hair clip.
The child in Chaos’s arms soon fell asleep again. It seemed to be as sleepy as a newborn baby. Seong Hyeon-je picked up a small bag and a few toys that were nearby.
“…We need to find a place to leave it.”
“Wouldn’t it be safest with the Elder?”
“How can we go anywhere with a child?”
Chaos sighed, telling him not to talk nonsense.
“Most of all, I don’t know how to raise a child properly.”
His voice was bitter. Seong Hyeon-je noticed but didn’t pry.
“We shouldn’t stay here for long, so let’s move for now.”
The three people and the small wings left. The playground that had been created for one child slowly dissipated like a mirage.
* * *
The screen turned on. The beach scenery shook erratically.
[I can’t just try it randomly….]
A small grumbling voice was heard. The screen was still shaking. A finger appeared and disappeared in the corner.
[Live streaming is a bit… No one’s watching anyway.]
A darkening meadow was shown. It seemed to be by a river. The shaking stopped as if it had been put down somewhere.
[Oh, this is really impossible. No way. I have to find another way… .]
A small voice muttered. Then a white face appeared on the screen and quickly disappeared to the side.
[…They say that live streaming is the best way to get used to it quickly, but I can’t believe it. Oh, reduce the message window. Don’t put it in front of my eyes!]
Sighs burst out in succession.
[Baek Ha-yool, aren’t you just doing this for fun? Leave it alone, leave it alone. Don’t whine.]
A bird’s cry was heard somewhere.
[Yeah. It’s good to practice when you don’t have any subscribers. But a script or something… There was a lot hanging at that time. No, it’s still important now. …So what was I thinking back then.]
There was the sound of fingers tapping somewhere. The tip of the shoe squeaks and scratches the floor.
[Well, will the words come out smoothly when it comes to it? I turned it on for now, so even a weather forecast… Huh!]
Bang! There was a loud bang somewhere. A groan is also faintly heard.
[No, I’m sorry. But why… Oh.]
A face appeared on the screen. Embarrassed, she doesn’t look straight ahead and bows her head.
[Hello… This is Han Yoo-jin. It’s, it’s around 8:04 PM on June 7th. The sun is setting. It’s very cloudy. I heard it rained in some places.]
She coughs a little. She hesitates and bows her head again.
[I’m sorry. I turned it on to practice, so I didn’t know anyone would watch it. So, let’s say this is like a formal broadcast notice, yes. Thank you for watching, and in the future… I’m not sure if I’ll do it or not, but if I do, please visit me again then~.]
She seems to have relaxed a bit, and she smiles at the end.
[Have a good evening, um… Ah, always be happy!]
The broadcast ended with an awkward heart. The screen went black.
End of Prologue.
Author’s Note
Hello.
It has been almost 4 years since I started serialization. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has been with me to the end. And it was fun.
It was not easy to continue serialization for such a long time, and there were quite a few things that happened in the meantime. However, when I put a period on all that time and look back, it feels like it was a more fun and happier 4 years than I thought.
As the length of the novel was long, I tried to incorporate various materials. However, the beginning was a story that I wanted to see and was fun, and I pressed the keyboard with that feeling until the end. I think it was possible because there were readers who walked the long journey with me.
I hope that the readers also had a good time during the time they spent with the story I wrote happily.
Let’s talk about the novel for a moment. The ending was part of the synopsis before I even started writing, along with the beginning. If Han Yoojin grows and accepts Han Yuhyun as he is, and develops his relationship with Seong Hyeonje into one of mutual parenting, it would be possible for him to say goodbye to 25-year-old Han Yuhyun and welcome him back, resulting in a happy ending. Plus, he would save the world.^^
Since the fifth origin, the white bird, 25-year-old Han Yuhyun’s condition, the first crescent moon, and Seong Hyeonje’s detailed settings were all complete, writing the ending was easier than usual. However, the path to that ending didn’t seem easy, so at first I was worried if I would be able to reach the planned ending safely. Fortunately, I arrived at the ending I had originally envisioned, and I was able to satisfactorily put a period at the end.
And so the main story of the novel ended with Han Yoojin accepting himself and achieving his greatest goal. Han Yoojin said the last words he wanted to say to his 25-year-old brother and was finally able to say goodbye properly. If Han Yoojin had had a sincere conversation with Han Yuhyun in Chapter 1, telling him that he loved him, that he was sorry, and that he was grateful, he would have been able to accept his brother’s death, however difficult it may have been. When Sowon Stone said that he couldn’t bring the dead back to life, he might not have thought of turning back time, even though he was sad. Even if he had decided to regress and retrieve his brother’s body, he wouldn’t have pushed himself so hard, consumed by guilt. He would have cherished the family he had now more than the brother he had already sent away.
However, Han Yoojin failed to properly express his feelings to his brother in their last moments, and the words “I love you” remained a keyword. The impression keyword was something that Han Yoojin had to say, but it was also something that he couldn’t say lightly. The novel ends with the words that Han Yoojin couldn’t say, and the keyword disappears.
I think it was the perfect moment to put a period, when everything that had to be achieved had been achieved and everything that had been built up had been resolved. There was nothing more to add or take away.
The epilogue that followed was both a concluding Talk about it later and a beginning prologue. Life doesn’t end even after achieving the biggest and most important goals. The stories of all the characters that appeared in the novel, including Han Yoojin, and even the characters that didn’t appear, will continue to unfold.
The remaining four origins will have their own stories. The highest mountain will be where the young Chaos stayed, and it will be related to him. The endlessly flowing wings have changed in the epilogue. The deepest spring will most likely belong to Park Yelim, Sanho, and the mermaid queen. The jewel of all colors will need a shadow to reveal itself. That shadow is currently causing trouble for his self-proclaimed younger brother. Yoo Myeongwoo and Yoo Haneul will cooperate as system administrators, and the people belonging to each origin’s world will also come together in some way. Because it’s their job.
Thefireoforiginwithdrewfornow,butaslongasthereisanotherpathcalledHanyoohyun,itwillnotgiveupeasily.PerhapsitwillcovetHanyoohyun’spositiononceagain.MoonHyuna will get involved with Marisa and become even busier than in the main story. Marisa, who is running out of time, will try to put her chosen successor in her place, and Evelyn, who will try to prevent that, and Mari will also have to finish her work with her mother. Kang Soyoung will scream because of Evelyn, a member of the guild for the time being. Riet will jump into Kang Soyoung’s SOS, and Noah, who was trying to re-establish the healer & support system with Emily, will also be caught by the back of the neck. The awakened Sigma will help Moon Hyun-ah because he owes her a favor, and the puppeteer will inevitably get involved as well.
The children will make new friends and have various experiences while attending school. Han-gyeol, who wants to protect his younger siblings, may think about the usefulness of the power that he will have along with Seong Hyeon-je’s fortune. Do Ha-min wants to be an ordinary cafe owner who loves hamsters, but I don’t think it will be easy. Seok Ha-yan will try to get in touch with the outside world, and Seok Si-myeong will work day and night for the US branch. Min Ji-soo will also try to expand overseas.
Besides that, all those stories will influence each other and spread their branches endlessly. Even characters who don’t even appear properly will have their own stories.
That’s why Han Yoo-jin’s epilogue is also a prologue. It is a new beginning for Han Yoo-jin as well as everyone else.
The main story and epilogue of the novel ended as I had planned.
However, I felt a little sorry that I had to send the struggling protagonist home.^^; So I’m considering a spin-off where Han Yoo-jin arrives home. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get home to Seong Hyeon-je.
It’s not confirmed yet, and if I do serialize the spin-off, I don’t think I can finish it as short as the epilogue, so it looks like it will be after next year. By the way, I’m aiming to include a spin-off in each volume of the paperback edition. It is possible to add volumes that do not include spin-offs later.
During serialization, I wondered when it would end, but now that it’s finally over, I feel relieved and regretful. It’s a strange feeling to think that I don’t have to serialize it starting tomorrow. I have a lot to do, such as starting writing the spin-off, finishing the game, and taking care of other pending tasks, but my heart is already empty in one corner. Since it’s not completely over, including things outside the work, I’ll try to keep you updated from time to time.
Finally, I would like to thank once again the many people who helped me throughout the serialization and the readers who have been with me on this long journey, and I hope that you will always be happy and have a good day.^^
